Kevin Hollinrake MP is supporting the Great British Food Campaign. With so many varied and quality products being made in his constituency he wants to promote the tasty treats Thirsk and Malton has to offer. The five-year campaign, led by Environment Secretary Elizabeth Truss, will give a boost to chefs, entrepreneurs and food producers and promote British food and drink at home and abroad. The campaign is well underway with 2016 designated the Year of Great British Food. Events have already been organised including a food trail during the second annual Cycle Tour de Yorkshire. Recently Mr. Hollinrake enjoyed a pint of Wold Gold on tap in the Strangers’ Bar. The beer is made at the Wold Top brewery in Wold Newton. Whilst in the constituency the MP often enjoys locally sourced meals, from sampling the scones at the Byland Abbey Inn tea rooms, salads from Herbs Unlimited near Thirsk, the artisan food producers at Talbot Yard, to fish and chips in Filey and produce on the stalls at the Malton Food Festival. He continually stresses the importance of supporting businesses and farmers who provide top quality wares, “We are so lucky to be living in an area that has such fantastic and tasty local food and drink. It is great to be able to get a refreshing Yorkshire pint in Westminster after a long day and to introduce colleagues to the delights of Wold Top brewery. Whether it is a pint of beer or a pint of milk the constituency supplies quality that we must promote. It is good to see Yorkshire beverages in London bars but we need share more of our produce with more of the world. I will continue to promote the full menu the constituency has to offer and I believe we should do more to export to the rest of the world. Already this Government has supported thousands of food and drink businesses to export almost £1 billion of their top-quality British produce to shops and restaurants around the world in the past two years. Total food and drink exports reached £19 billion in 2014 and we estimate these exports support up to 65,000 jobs in food and drink manufacturing. The Government supports the Food and Drink Federation’s export target to grow value-added food and drink exports by a third, which would achieve a total value of £6 billion by 2020. We must build on this success and encourage even more Thirsk and Malton companies to sell their Great British produce around the world.”
