It’s time something was done to improve access for disabled people at Thirsk Station. It currently has no disabled access to the station itself or between platforms making it impossible for disabled people to get about unaided. I will work with North Yorkshire County Council to submit a bid in the next round of the Department of Transport’s Access for All fund in the investment period between 2019-2024 which closes on November 16th. The aim is to provide outdated stations with accessible step free routes. I am confident that Thirsk station meets all the necessary criteria to be successful, particularly as passenger numbers have increased by 38% over the last ten years with many more predicted to use the station in the future with increased frequency and capacity of services, such as the TransPennine Express.
