This week is English Tourism Week and where better to celebrate it than in the lovely constituency of Thirsk and Malton. We have so much to offer the thousands of visitors who come every year - the beautiful North York Moors, our many market towns, the proudly old fashioned coastal town of Filey and the rolling countryside in between.
This week York was named the best place to live in Britain according to the Sunday Times, thanks to its perfect mix of heritage and hi-tech. It also serves as the gateway into the beautiful landscapes of North Yorkshire.
I’d like to pay tribute to all those involved in the tourism industry in my constituency and to Welcome to Yorkshire which does such great work promoting North Yorkshire across the globe.
This year we’re in for a treat as we welcome the third stage of this year’s Tour de Yorkshire on Saturday 5th May, an event which has been extended from three to four days. It will be a terrific boost for North Yorkshire not just on the day itself when famous cyclists pass through but also because of the positive benefits it will bring to the economy before and after the event as the whole world watches on.
