Passengers will soon have more timetable choice and more seats on trains through the constituency thanks to a new agreement between the Government and rail franchises.
This means commuters, shoppers, tourists and students in North Yorkshire will hopefully be able to travel with more regularity and reliability. Access to a good rail service means not just ease of travel for residents and visitors but also it has a positive effect on the economy.
Kevin Hollinrake, MP for Thirsk and Malton, says it is a productive step towards making it easier to get around the North as well as easier to live and work in local towns.
“The existing hourly TransPennine Express service will be supplemented by a new Northern service, which will double the frequency of the York, Malton, Scarborough service to two trains per hour and also introduce new longer trains. Robert Goodwill and I have been pressing for this improvement for many months and I am delighted that this has now been delivered. This is great news for local people, the local economy and local jobs.”
The new agreement on the Northern and TransPennine Express franchises, which will run from April 2016, will bring a £1.2 billion boost to rail services in the North.
