I am fully supportive of the Government’s clean air strategy which will include banning the sale of new diesel and petrol cars from 2040. This can only be good news for towns like Malton and Norton where the pollution levels are often dangerously high. There’s also to be a further £255m for councils to tackle air pollution locally which could include changing road layouts, retrofitting public transport or schemes to encourage people to leave their cars at home. I have been working with the County and District councils to find a suitable solution for local traffic management problems that will tackle both easing congestion and addresses the environmental impact of vehicle emissions. This latest development will certainly help. The government wants nearly all cars and vans to be zero emission by 2050 and electric cars are the way to go. I drive an electric car myself and it’s been an eye opener – no more queuing at petrol stations, clean and cheap to run.
