On Saturday, I laid a wreath at the War Memorial in Easingwold at a service conducted by The Reverend Margaret Young with music from the Easingwold Town Band. This tradition, to mark the end of the First World War and to remember members of the armed forces who died in the line of duty started in 1919 and, I hope, will continue to be observed for the next hundred years. On Sunday, like millions of people around the country, I observed a two minute silence at the Malton War Memorial service to remember all those who gave their lives in the service of their country.
