On Friday pupils at Thirsk Community Primary School got the opportunity to hear about the life of an MP. The children in year 6 heard about how Parliament works and asked questions of their visitor Kevin Hollinrake, MP for Thirsk and Malton.
During the afternoon Mr Hollinrake was given a tour around the school and met with both students and teachers. As part of the activities the class took part in a discussion to demonstrate how Government makes rules. Earlier this year several pupils had designed their own Thirsk and Malton constituency flag for the parliament 2015 Flag Project.
Mr Hollinrake was delighted to meet the young constituents and share his experiences.
“It was fun to take part in helping children understand how Government works. I was amazed at what they already knew and impressed by their enthusiasm. I am grateful for the invitation from the school and, as a local boy myself, look forward to seeing perhaps a few more politicians of the future emerge from Thirsk.”
The visit took part in Parliament Week which is an annual countrywide initiative to engage and connect people with Parliament, its work and Members.
