Kevin Hollinrake MP visits communities in Thirsk and Malton which have been impacted by floods and witnessed first-hand what upset and damage it has caused. He praised the valiant, heart-warming response emergency services and volunteers have made. As the floods recede, Kevin is calling for a comprehensive approach to flood prevention. He wants to draw attention to the community programme in Pickering called Slow the Flow which embraces this philosophy, building small natural dams and planting trees to slow the flow of water running into the town.
Kevin believes that sustainable upland management is the best way forward in combating this issue. He is also pursuing improved tax relief for landowners who undertake flood defence work.
