It is absolutely not acceptable that Ryedale has the slowest broadband speed in the UK, according to a Which? report.
I have been campaigning to improve broadband speeds and mobile signals across the constituency since I was elected in 20I5 and so I am frustrated to hear that we are actually at the bottom of the list.
I attended a Fix Bad Broadband meeting in Westminster, organised by Which? and I am determined to ensure that something is done to change the situation in Ryedale. Companies and households rely increasingly on the internet for business, education, shopping and personal communications. If the situation doesn’t improve we are at risk of losing people and businesses from Ryedale and we cannot allow this to happen.
I have already met with BT to urge them to look at using other technologies to allow a quicker deployment of services to reach rural areas. There are many ways that faster, more reliable broadband can be delivered and we need to take advantage of these so that Ryedale does not continue to miss out.
