Kevin Hollinrake MP will be visiting his home town on Small Business Saturday talking to people who run their own enterprises in and around Easingwold. As a young man Mr Hollinrake set up his own business whilst living in the area and thus fully appreciates the potential challenges.
“Running your own business is one of life's most incredibly exciting opportunities. It offers the potential to create something totally unique, whilst providing business owners with freedom and enhanced earnings. But we should never underestimate how tough life can be for those running your own business; most of the time, and particularly in the early years, you are in a situation when you have risked your life savings for the privilege of working twice the hours for half the money. “
Now in its 3rd year the Small Business Saturday campaign aims to highlight the importance of small independent businesses to the country’s economy and their importance to daily life in communities. This national event on 5th December is supported by MPs, local councils, larger corporations and shoppers.
There is a record 5.4 million small businesses in the UK. Since becoming MP for Thirsk and Malton, Mr Hollinrake has continually pushed for improvements and more investment in both communication and transport links in the North to help businesses across his constituency.
“Business needs are simple; a strong national and local economy, good transport, broadband and mobile phone connections, a ready supply of skilled workers and a business-friendly local authority. Given that, most business people simply want to be left alone to get on with things.”
