Supporting groups working with young people is an issue that is very important to Kevin Hollinrake MP for Thirsk and Malton. He welcomes the recent announcement by Theresa May that youth projects could benefit from a new £80m fund. Mr. Hollinrake hopes groups in Hambleton and Ryedale will able to apply to share in this.
“I think it is vital that the government look at ways to support services that help our young people. There are many dedicated people working within communities who want the next generation to be able to grasp opportunities and achieve their potential. I was very interested in the recent announcement by the Prime Minister and hope clubs in the constituency can take advantage of what is on offer. I look forward to hearing more about how services from this important section of our community can benefit. I know first-hand the difference youth clubs etc. can make. They can offer so much in terms of skills, self-confidence, support, recreation and providing a place to meet people. My mother was a youth worker and I attended the youth club she set up in Easingwold. I have seen some of the great work being done in the towns near me and I am always keen to offer my support. I hope this announcement will benefit existing organisations and promote new initiatives.”
Kevin Hollinrake has visited several projects across his constituency including Carlton Lodge Outdoor Centre which provides various activities for children and young people and host the National Citizen Service. The MP has been a regular visitor to The Clock in Thirsk which he’s supported for many years. Earlier this year the MP learnt about a Boxercise fitness class for girls which aimed to boost their self-confidence and personal security. Mr. Hollinrake also heard how support was being provided for those affected by rural isolation and the one to one support on offer to vulnerable young people.
“The Clock is a great example of the range of ways help can be provided. The team who run the services deserve to be acknowledge for what they do. I know that residents from both the town and surrounding villages attend and benefit from classes and the facilities. I will continue to express to my colleagues in Parliament the importance of demonstrating in practical terms our support for young people.”
