I met with residents in Hutton le Hole, who were understandably frustrated by the delay in the delivery of superfast broadband to their village. BT had promised them that it would be available by the end of June, but it has now been delayed until the end of October. This is because BT made an agreement with Superfast North Yorkshire (SFNY) that, if their request to delay delivery was accepted, they would ensure that a further 300 North Yorkshire homes would be connected at no extra cost. I know it’s tough on Hutton-le Hole, but their sacrifice will mean 300 more homes will benefit. I have pledged to keep an eye on developments so there are no further delays.
The Joint Parish Forum was also concerned about the lack of consultation on the erection of unsightly new telegraph poles to deliver the broadband and the importance of good mobile phone coverage for both the farming community and tourists - especially in the busy summer months.
