A brewery in Kevin Hollinrake's constituency is helping to quench an international thirst for its fine ales thanks to a significant investment in its operations.
Wold Top Brewery recently hosted the MP and Sir Gary Verity, Chief Executive of Welcome to Yorkshire, to the official launch of its new brew house.
The facility will enable Wold Top to triple its capacity, enabling it to build on the success that has seen it become a household name among real ale lovers both home and abroad. Brewery manager Kate Balchin said: "Previously we could brew 100 brewers' barrels a week, which is the equivalent of 16,400 litres.
"Now we can potentially brew 450 brewers' barrels a week, which amounts to around 74,000 litres. With the new kit, it is also a more automated brewing process, which is part of our aim to become more streamlined and efficient."
The Mellor family diversified into beer on its 600-acre Wolds farm more than a decade ago.
While Wold Top's early success rested on it being a regional brewery with a strong local following, the brand has now earned a global following, with exports of bottled and cask beer accounting for 15% of the company's turnover. Since 2011, Wold Top has grown exports by 90 per cent.
Mrs Balchin said: "We have worked hard over the past 18 months to forge links with partner companies in Europe and worldwide and now export a range of bottled beers to Italy, Sweden, Norway, Finland, the Falkland Islands, Ireland and Canada. I think many of our export customers like the family aspect of the business.
"Our Italian exports, for example, are growing year on year and we work closely with customers to ensure we meet demand and expectations.
"Our success has not been without challenges, particularly in terms of meeting demand and shelf life, but the new brew plant is helping to address these challenges. Anything that can help us meet this growing demand is great for the future of the business."
The brewery's latest investment has been helped through a loan from Finance Yorkshire, as well as Regional Growth Funding through the Humber Local Enterprise Partnership and finance from the bank.
As well as increasing capacity for brewing beer, the investment has also boosted the company's ability to offer contract bottling to other breweries.
It was bakced by a £150k loan from investment group Finance Yorkshire.
Mrs Balchin said: "We are already doing contract bottling for other breweries but this will enable us to do more in the future."
Sir Gary Verity, chief executive of Welcome to Yorkshire, this month travelled to the Wold Newton brewery to officially open the new brew plant.
