I shall continue to challenge the legal basis upon which the RVS (Royal Voluntary Centre) plans to sell off Hungate Centre in Pickering. The RVS took over as caretakers in the 60s not long after it was built by the Pickering community.
Today I introduced a Ten Minute Rule Bill in the House of Commons which would bring an end to business rates and replace the revenue with a small increase in VAT.
I do understand that there is a good deal of concern about this. As I have said many times the Government has been clear that in all of our trade negotiations, we will not compromise on our high environmental protection, animal welfare and food standards.
2020 has been a long hard year but, as it draws to a close, we must take heart from fact that the first Covid vaccination programme in the world has begun and, at last, we can start to look forward not backwards.
